Just Pure- Hermanus

What a lovely little shop!!...JUST PURE in Hermanus was just what we needed to escape the cold wind on a gorgeous Saturday morning last weekend. After ordering a Cafe Mocha to warm me up, I quickly realized there was a lot more to be discovered around the shop/bistro!

Just Pure is the home of a "natural" skincare and ambiance collection of products created by Tamsin Koen who launched it in 2007. Read her interesting story and background about these lovely products here . I was quickly reminded about the fact that 60% of every product we use is absorbed into our blood stream...!!! so I quickly got sucked into the purchase of an Eye Contour Oil....(twist my arm!)

The shop sells a lot of other great gifts, home furnishing, baby clothing and all things "pure" and pretty!

The "Bistro" serves breakfast all day and although we did not eat, there was a delicious smell coming out of the kitchen. I'll be sure to stop in again for a meal next time I'm in Hermanus. Sounds like the perfect place for an afternoon of Whale Watching ......

and a little shopping.....

The Kitchen-Woodstock

So I finally made it to The Kitchen today and I can totally see why Michelle Obama wanted to go there for lunch on her last visit to Cape Town.....simply delicious!

Karen Dudley has been around for way longer than her appearance in the New York Times and has catered for some of the best parties in town from small to huge! sadly none of the ones I have been to...so this was a FIRST for me!!! Vegetarian Heaven once again....I had a plate of 6 different amazing salads for R50. In New York it would have been $20. Food (and fantastic one!) is still a "Great Deal" in this country.

Check out their SALAD menu....impressive! they use the freshest and most unusual ingredient combinations...nice and spicy too!

They are also particularly famous for their LOVE sandwiches and World Peace Brownies, Ginger Fudge Squares and l Kitchen-made cakes.
Next time!!! I was so full today I could not squeeze any of these very tempting goodies in ...

The Kitchen is extremely popular and frequented by quite a trendy crowd, lots of regulars and the odd curious foodie...go BEFORE 1 PM because the line is literally OUT THE DOOR and the counter space is very limited.

They are only OPEN Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

De Oude Bank Bakkerij- Stellenbosch

I first discovered this place in November and I have been meaning to write about it for a while because it is truly my favorite coffee shop and bakery in the winelands....so much so, I wish it was actually in Capetown.

There are many reasons why I love this place and many people have already written about it since its opening in 2010...

I love it because:

  1. They make an awesome RED cappuccino and serve it in their very beautiful wooden cups with wooden spoons and wooden saucers ( I have a thing for cups!)
  2. They make 6 other kinds of "real coffee", and the coffee comes from a micro-roastery.
  3. Bread is a serious affair here, and I LOVE bread. They make a fantastic 100% artisanal dark RYE .
  4. They have deconstructed sandwiches by listing all the ingredients separately so you order exactly what you like and eat it as you like...(see my picture below).
  5. I love the rustic space and the incredibly stylish chairs....
What I do NOT love is that both on Saturday and Sunday when I'm most likely to be in Stellenbosh they CLOSE at 3 and 1 pm. Boo!!!
